If you’re looking at Dealer Image Pro alternatives, you should get straight answers. This page covers how Dealer Image Pro works today: who runs it, how pricing works, what you capture with, and how fast your photos and video go live. It also includes a checklist you can use with any vendor, us included.
We’d rather you choose on facts than on a comparison page written by someone selling against us. If another provider is a better fit for your store, the checklist below should make that clear too.
Who’s behind Dealer Image Pro today
Dealer Image Pro was founded in 2012 by Peter Duffy. What began as a traditional lot photography service quickly evolved into a software company, giving automotive dealerships and dealer groups a faster, more consistent, and scalable way to merchandise their inventory.
In early 2026, Dealer Image Pro joined the PBS Systems family, which serves more than 3,500 dealerships across North America and the Caribbean. The acquisition marked an important new chapter for Dealer Image Pro, bringing additional resources and momentum to build bigger, better, and faster solutions for our customers.
What hasn’t changed is the team behind the company. Founder and CEO Peter Duffy continues to lead Dealer Image Pro, with headquarters remaining in Sacramento, California. The same people, experience, and customer focus remain at the core—now with greater resources to shape what comes next.
“We’ll continue doing what we do best, while expanding what’s possible through the strength and scale of PBS Systems.” (Peter Duffy, CEO)
For dealers, that means:
- Same product, same support team. Your Photo Assistant workflow, training and support contacts stay the same.
- Works with your preferred DMS, not only PBS. Dealer Image Pro remains available to dealers on any DMS.
- More investment, not less. A prime example is the September launch of our all-new Photo Assistant V7x app and our transition to iPhone Pro Max. Both reflect a continued investment in giving dealerships faster, more reliable tools to capture and merchandise inventory.
And we’re just getting started. Our product roadmap includes several exciting new features and enhancements coming in the months ahead—all focused on helping our customers work faster, improve consistency, and get more from Dealer Image Pro.
How pricing works
Dealer Image Pro is a subscription. It includes the hardware (iPhone Pro Max), software (Photo Assistant V7x), monitoring and reporting dashboard (Autoport®), unlimited training for your team, tutorials, same-day professional editing, optional backgrounding, support, and more at no extra charge.
When you compare quotes, ask each vendor what the price covers. A low per-vehicle rate can get more expensive once you add editing, video, re-shoots, extra images, or syndication.
- What’s included with Dealer Image Pro?
Every feature is included in one simple price. No tiers. No tokens or points. No surprise upcharges to access the tools your team needs.
Our one-price model gives dealerships complete transparency from the start, predictable billing for easier budgeting, and the freedom to use every Dealer Image Pro feature without worrying about additional costs. - Pricing figures you may see online: Some third-party comparison pages publish pricing for Dealer Image Pro that does not come from us and may not reflect current or accurate pricing.
For the latest pricing information, visit our Get Pricing page. Dealer Image Pro currently requires a minimum of 50 vehicles per month to get started. We recommend booking a demo so we can learn about your dealership. answer your questions, and provide accurate pricing based on your specific needs.

Background removal: built for trust, not just looks

Shoppers can spot a fake background in seconds. A car that looks pasted onto a studio floor, with no real shadow and tires that don’t touch the ground, makes people wonder what else was edited. More AI isn’t the goal. The goal is a photo that looks like the car was actually shot there.
When you judge any vendor’s background removal, zoom in on these:
- Grounding: Do all four tires sit on the surface, with a contact shadow under each? Or does the car look like it’s hovering?
- Shadows and light: Does the shadow match the direction of the light in the scene?
- Glass: Look through the windows. Do you see the new background, the old lot, or a smeared fill?
- Edges: Check mirrors, antennas, roof racks and wheel spokes for halos or clipped edges.
- Consistency: Do 30 cars shot by three different people look like one lot?
Background editing is only part of the solution. Our 5-star training is where additional value and presentation consistency really show up and show out.
Getting inventory online fast
Photos and video are edited same-day and publish automatically to your website, third-party websites, and your dealership’s YouTube channel within hours of capture. Your Autoport® dashboard shows where each vehicle stands in the merchandising process, so you can spot units that are stuck before they cost you front-line days.
- Website and syndication partners: Dealer Image Pro integrates with all major automotive IMS and website providers. Once your content is captured and processed through Autoport®, it will be published to your IMS for syndication across your dealership website and third-party inventory platforms.
- Typical time-to-web: Same-day publishing. Shoot inventory in-house, upload through Photo Assistant™, and Dealer Image Pro handles the editing, sequencing, and publishing workflow to get your content online fast.
Results from a customer: Moore Cadillac Richmond reported a 56% increase in pre-owned VDP views, $527 more gross profit per unit, and 51% more pre-owned units sold month over month. View other case studies.

Questions to ask any vehicle photo vendor.
Use these with every provider you’re considering, us included. Get the answers in writing
| Questions | Why it matters |
| Can you walk me through an itemized quote? | Per-vehicle rates often leave out the extras that drive total cost. Get every line in writing – editing, video, re-shoots, syndication. |
| Can I see results from a real customer’s lot? | AI backgrounds can look great in a demo and fake on a live lot: floating cars, missing shadows, smeared windows. |
| How long does it take to fully shoot a vehicle using your services? | Some dealers report capture taking several times longer after switching apps. Time it. |
| What happens when an upload fails or a photo won’t process? | Photos stuck in “uploading” or failing to process leave units offline. See how you’d spot it and who gets alerted. |
| Can my team test the process before signing a long-term contract? | Crashes, battery drain and overheating show up on real devices, not the rep’s demo phone. |
| Can shooting order be changed in the app but still present correctly on the VDP? | Out-of-order photos mean manual fixes on every VDP. |
| Can you play a video from a live customer VDP? | Video on the VDP keeps shoppers engaged longer. Check whether it’s stabilized and narrated. |
| Can you pull up time-to-market stats from a current customer’s dashboard? | Every day a unit sits without photos costs you front-line time. |
| Can you show me your onboarding plan and support hours and channels? | Support quality shows up after the contract is signed. |
| Can you show me delivered photos that meet my OEM’s CPO image requirements? | Non-compliant images can affect co-op funds and program eligibility. |
| Can you show examples of two dealers who have used you for more than two years? | Long-term customers tell you more than a pilot does. |
