Last week in Nashville, PBS Systems hosted its biggest Dealer Conference ever. It was my first as part of the PBS family, and I had the pleasure of presenting “SUPERCHARGED: Vehicle Merchandising with Dealer Image Pro.” A big thank you to the entire PBS team and dealer family for welcoming Dealer Image Pro into the organization.

It became clear early on that PBS and Dealer Image Pro were built in similar ways. We both take dealer relationships seriously. We both build technology for the long term. And we’ve both grown without losing the family atmosphere and accountability that got us here.

We Were the Vendor

Dealer Image Pro didn’t start as a software company. We started in 2009 as a photo vendor, working on dealership lots every day. We saw the same problems again and again: new cars arriving faster than they could be photographed, used cars stuck in recon, and managers who couldn’t see where the process was breaking down.

We were part of the problem. Our customers were waiting on our schedule, too.

We Invented Wireframe Guidelines

I’d love to say we had a grand plan for the platform we have today. We didn’t. The breakthrough was simple: if you give any person the right visual cues and a guided workflow, you get a consistent result. That idea became our wireframe guides and the first Photo Assistant™ app.

With it, any properly trained employee can capture a complete, professional set of vehicle photos in 6–8 minutes. Autoport® followed as the command center for editing, quality control, publishing and reporting.

No Pics, No Clicks

A vehicle can be reconditioned, parked on the front line and ready to sell, yet customers barely see it if it isn’t online with photos. Every day between acquiring a vehicle and getting it online adds holding cost without generating a single lead.

The Results Dealers See

On average, our dealers:

  • Get 10% more inventory online
  • Improve speed-to-market by 4 days
  • Sell their vehicles 7 days faster

One large publicly traded auto group used to take more than ten days to merchandise much of its inventory. For the last five years, it has held a time-to-market of about six days across 143 stores with Dealer Image Pro.

What Dealers Get with Dealer Image Pro

One idea led to the next, and those ideas became the full merchandising system we are today, serving nearly 1,000 dealerships across the U.S., Canada and Mexico. We sell one product, and it includes everything a dealership needs to get its inventory online fast:

  • The equipment, included. We’re the only company on the market that includes the equipment at every rooftop, with an LTE 5G unlimited data plan.
  • Wireframes. The dealership doesn’t have to hope the person taking pictures has an eye for photography. We put the eye for photography into the software.
  • A live inventory list. Remember the clipboard? Wireframes solve consistency. The inventory list starts solving speed and organization.
  • One workflow to finish the vehicle. Photos, video, 360°, new-car cloning, window stickers and buyers guides. For every 100 stickers you print, you get 400 direct VDP visits from customers standing right in front of the car.
  • AI plus human QC. Until we have robots that can drive cars on real dealer lots, AI can’t take your photos for you. So we use automation where it makes sense, and our team of 30 reviews nearly 100,000 photos a day.
  • Daily reporting. An entry-level photographer shouldn’t have one version of reality and their GM another. If you want to improve time-to-market, the first thing you have to do is make the delay visible.

What Dealer Image Pro + PBS Means for Dealers

The details aren’t ours to share, but the long-term vision is simple: fewer disconnected systems for dealers, with merchandising living inside the DMS instead of beside it.

You know your stores better than we ever will. So I’ll leave you with the same question I asked in Nashville: If you took four days out of your merchandising process, what would that mean for your operation?

I invite you to do the math, then Book a Demo. Our team will walk through your current process with you, and help you decide whether Dealer Image Pro is the right fit for your dealership.

See you at the top,
Peter Duffy
